Well, 2009 has hit the tracks running with televisual totty.

ITV's latest Saturday evening offering Demons is a sort of English rip-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It features the excellent Philip Glenister in a career threatening performance as Rupert Galvin, a demon smiter with the worst North American accent you have ever heard in your life. Main reason for watching is Christian Cooke, last of the von Helsings - Luke Rutherford. He is likely to remove his top at a moment's notice.

He's been on Echo Beach as Janson Donovan's son - which is hardly career enhancing - although he did get his top off.

He's also been on Casualty as a gay boy.

He's been also on Dr Who as a gorgeous soldier who didn't get his top off but who did pout a lot before he got killed by the Sontarans.

Apparently, he'll be on our television screens in the autumn in another new series called Trinity. In a break with tradition, he'll take his top off rather a lot. *Thumbs Up!!*

Talking about this in interviews, he says...

Is it fun playing a bastard?
"Completely fun. I absolutely love it! Not only do I get to wear fancy suits, hold a cane and smoke in scenes, I get to be an absolute cunt! I get to swear at people and be mean and nasty. Getting into that character was completely different for me - and completely different from my character in Demons as well."

As you said there's lots of sex in the series. I also hear there's "a lot of arse" from you in the first episode.
"Yeah, there is! In my opening scene, I wake up in bed, go to the door and start shagging my cousin. Quite graphically as well! By the end of episode one I'm shagging someone else, walking along the corridor naked, all sorts of stuff. So yeah, there's a lot of sex, drinking, partying and outrage. It's going to be a fun series."

Did you mind doing the more graphic scenes?
"Everyone's quite professional about it. At the end of the day you're making a bit of entertainment - it's not a porno. The whole thing's not about me being naked, it's all in aid of the joke. If it was just for the sake about it, I'd say that it wasn't really necessary. I think the girls had more of a problem with it - but whatever, I get on with it."

The identity of the new Doctor to replace David Tennant when he steps down has been announced as Matt Smith. Who you may say? Well, he has been seen on television in The Ruby in the Smoke and he has had a few West End outings. We'll see how he turns out.

Hussle is back. Joining the cast this time round is Matt di Angelo.

So far, he has refrained from taking his top off but we all live in hope after his performance in Strictly Come Dancing back in 2007.

And some late news. Sam has split up from Matty. Six months ago it was all on lurv. But now it's all off.

Sam and Matty

It sounds as though Matty treated Sam with honesty and respect in the end by owning that he never loved Sam as much as Sam loved Matty. However, even though it was all a bit raw, there was also just a little touch of the soap opera with talk of always respecting each other and hoping that they can remain friends forever. Pshaw!!

Being realistic about this - no-one ever ends a relationship without causing some pain. Trust me on this one, it just ain't possible. If I look back on my long and tortured biography before Ross, ending relationships was a real roller-coaster ride simply to ensure that I emerged with my self-respect and my wallet intact.

We should also remember that Matty and Sam are two young gay men in their hormonal prime. The fact that they got past the third shag was a real achievement. Moving on to choosing soft furnishings together was always going to be extremely unlikely.

Watch out Liverpool. Capital of Culture Year may be coming to an end. But Sam is on the loose again.
