Waiting for RSC Hamlet to begin.

1 I like productions that subvert my expectations. Hamlet is normally grey, grey, grey. This production was primary colours. The pace of productions can often become "sicklied o'er with the pale caste of thought" whereas this has all of the impetus of a political thriller. And in Paapa Essiedu they found a central actor with enough magnetic energy for everyone else to revolve around and yet he could still be still. The portrayal of a soul in torment is genuinely human and honest. The production reminds you that the play concerns a young man's reaction to a family horror
