Name Day
1 March

1 March feels very significant to me.

It is, of course, my name day. I'm not Welsh but St David's Day has always had a certain ring to my ears.

It also feels like the end of winter to me. The dark months stretch from the changing of the hour at the end of October through to this present time. Reaching March, signifies lighter mornings, evenings stretching out, temperatures rising. Even if snow does fall now, it will not last in the way it might in January.

After the four dark months, there are now eight light months ahead and that is a source of optimistic joy. Flowers are returning. The ribes in the park already has a few plummy blossoms on its branches. Early blossoms garb another tree.

Tonight I arrived home after a day's work at around 6pm and before the street lights came on. Above me the sky was pale Wedgewood blue. The clouds were tangerine pink. The birds were singing. It felt good.

We are into the awards season. The BAFTAs have just happened. Lord of the Rings did well. Ian McKellen attended with Orlando Bloom who took the part of the elf, Legolas Greenleaf.

Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom

I think we should be told.

And then there was Stephen Daldry, film and theatre director, with this movie person. But who is it? She looks like Joan Collins' mother. But no. I'm afraid the glamour has washed off in the rain.
