Career Statement

I have recently completed a PGCE in Primary Education at Liverpool Hope University, graduating with Distinction. I am making this career change having worked in the field of adult learning and development for nearly 20 years as an NVQ Assessor/Internal Verifier, teacher of IT skills and, latterly, as Quality Assurance Coordinator for a City and Guilds Assessment Centre.

From 2003-2011, I worked on a project for long term unemployed people wanting to work within the IT industry. The project offered learning support in communication skills, IT software usage skills and IT technical support skills. Many of those adult learners could be described as being vulnerable with low self-esteem, requiring individually tailored personal tuition and pastoral care.

Alongside this work with adults, I have also been involved with young people's learning and education. From 2009-2011, I worked on a voluntary basis in a Primary School, contributing to a wide variety of classroom activities including running a lunchtime computer club. I have also assisted on several residential courses at Crosby Hall Educational Trust.

I organise Children's Meetings for the local Quaker Meeting of which I am a member. These monthly meetings follow Montessori methodologies of child-centred learning aiming to develop a broad spiritual awareness. In my freelance work with Clark and Guy Ltd, I have worked for over eight years on workshops for Gifted and Talented young people, workshops organised with Liverpool DaDA (Disability and Deaf Arts) and projects with schools in the North West supporting curriculum development.
